In December 2018, nbn announced they would be implementing changes to their Fixed Wireless product to accommodate user demand. The two most important changes affecting Bendigo Telco customers are:
- Introduction of a new Fixed Wireless speed tier, Fixed Wireless Plus.
- Withdrawal of the existing 50/20 Fixed Wireless speed tier.
Fixed Wireless Plus is a new, best-effort speed profile from nbn. It currently allows for a maximum 60Mbps download speed, and 20Mbps upload speed. In March 2020, nbn will conduct a network upgrade, changing the speeds of Fixed Wireless Plus to 75Mpbs download and 10Mbps upload.
Bendigo Telco will migrate services affected by the withdrawal of the existing 50/20 Fixed Wireless speed tier to Fixed Wireless Plus in December 2019 to ensure customers do not face any service disruption
Frequently Asked Questions
Will my bill change when my service changes to Fixed Wireless Plus?
No, your monthly charge will remain the same. Fixed Wireless Plus will cost the same amount as a 50/20 service.
What happens to my existing contract?
If your service is in-contract, we will change your plan to a month-to-month service.
Will I experience any downtime during the migration?
No, the service migration should not incur any outages or downtime. If you are experiencing connection issues, please contact customerhelp@bendigotelco.com.au.
Will my service be able to take advantage of the new speed profile?
Fixed Wireless Plus is what is known as a best-effort service. This means that your connection will aim to take advantage of the maximum potential speed the network is capable of delivering at that time of use. This is similar to how 4G data services are delivered.
Fixed Wireless Plus will also be subject to the same connection constrains as other Fixed Wireless profiles. Your speed may be affected by a number of factors including network congestion, line of sight, and more.
Am I required to use Fixed Wireless Plus, or can I change to a different speed tier?
For your convenience, we are automatically migrating your service to Fixed Wireless Plus. However, if you would prefer to use a different speed tier, you may also use our 12/1 speed tier. Please contact customerhelp@bendigotelco.com.au if you would like to request a different speed tier, or to cancel your service.
Do I need to do anything to my service or hardware when my connection migrates to Fixed Wireless Plus?
Once the migration is complete, you should reboot your router. You can do this by switching the power off to your router for 10 seconds, then turning it back on. You will experience a brief internet disconnection whilst the service reconnects.
